Guitar Hero III First Impressions

I grabbed a copy of GH3 yesterday and Deb & I spent about 2 hours working through the first 3 sets of co-op career Sunday Night. Co-op career is certainly a cool feature.  Basically it’s like the older co-op mode where one person does guitar and the other does base. The graphics are a little snazzier, but given you spend 99.9% of your time glued to the frets, it doesn’t really matter.  I actually don’t really like the new crowd meter…takes more time to glance and grok - the old one was much easier to read.  ...

Learning on the Run

One of the things I've been doing - and really enjoying - is to listen to NPR shows on my long runs. NPR publishes most of their shows online as "podcasts", which is just a fancy way of saying you can go to their website and pick up a recording of a show.  It's like On Demand for radio, but on the Internet.  It's just incredible stuff for over-intellectualizing rationalists like me.  And it's the closest thing to unbiased news that I know of. I regularly find myself sitting in my car for several minutes in the garage...

Finally, something that works: ROKU Soundbridge M1001

For several years now I've been trying to find a good way to serve music to my bedroom upstairs.  There are speakers in the ceiling of the bedroom and bathroom up there, and now that all my music is digital I've been working on a good way to stream it to that location. My house isn't wired with network cable, and the layout of the place makes doing so rather challenging (no attic or crawl space, etc).  Since I'm running Media Center now, one idea would be to get an extender to do it, but that's a heavy weight...
