Four days to go.
The last two weeks have brought the last of the work and the Taper phase. It's very odd to go from 17-20 hours of volume down to 7 or less, but that's how it works. Some people report having "the taper blues" which is a set of things that happen to your body when you do this. Some people feel sluggish and start to freak about their fitness (I haven't had this problem), some people get all kinds of random aches and pains out of nowhere (I have had this problem). Mostly it's time to get rested up and let your body recover from all the training.
The last few days have been heavy with logistics. Packing the bike, getting the details of a race nutrition strategy sorted, etc. Fortunately if you're travelling to a hot climate and not planning to do very much besides hang out and, um, race, you don't need to pack much else. Have wetsuit will travel.
Oh, wetsuits. My coach suggested I get a swim in the pool with the wetsuit before I went down there. A few reasons for this, primarily to get used to the suit again - he thinks the smell of the suit makes you nervous. He's right, when I first put it on I did get a bit of nerves. Anyway, I was shocked (shocked!) about how much faster the suit makes you swim. Doing a head-to-head in the pool like that was amazing. For me, during a solid 1,000y swim it was about 10-12s per hundred, maybe as much as 15. Big difference.
Anyway, I'm as ready as I'm going to be...time to head to Tempe.
