This was a harder week. My volume was a bit higher (not sure if it it was supposed to be), and work has be ridiculous for for about 2 1/2 weeks. That should be settled down now, which helps. One of the things I've been focusing on has been getting more sleep, which shortens the day. Adding a bunch of extra time in the office makes that even worse. Every day, except for Saturdays, has looked about like this:
Wake up: 6:30-7
Train: ~6:45-9:00
Work: ~9:30-8:30 (or later, often 10ish)
Eat, Go to bed. Repeat.
It started to get to me on Wednesday night. I made it home just in time for LOST but on the drive home I could tell it was starting to really lose steam. It starts to get to you when you haven't done anything else for weeks - opened your mail, laundry, caught up on DVR'd stuff, nothing. Ugh. Then Thursday was a really long day. On the bike at 6:40, at work, until 11:45 (yes, PM). Fortunately that was the end of the long work hours so it was good to push through and get it done. A light Friday and I was already feeling much better.
So with just a little extra volume, it was getting tough. I had a ride on my schedule for Thursday, which was an addition from last week. My Tuesday bike was 75-90 minutes, so I assumed this was the same. However, my coach forgot to fill out the "duration" field in the workout plan, so that workout didn't get added to the overall weekly totals. Plus, it turns out, I didn't read it close enough. It only called for 60 minutes. I did 80 minutes on the rollers, which was challenging for the last 15 or so. Turns out it was supposed to be 60-75 minutes. Oh well.
Spent a little over three hours on the bike yesterday, and the good news is that my run off the bike (30minutes) felt great. The little knee issue I've been having appears to be on the wane and I felt great after yesterday's long day. Today was good as well. I'm starting to like the Sunday workout (swim then weights). It seems like an almost relaxing workout compared to the others, esp being on Sunday morning. My swim was good, as I set two more PRs this week - 1:21 for 100y (3s faster than last week), and 4:35 for 300y (5s faster than last week) - and feel like I'm starting to break through on some technique work I've been trying to focus on. Nice! Everything is going exactly as planned.
To top it off, the weather today is just so nice. It's great to walk out of the gym into crisp, warm, fall sunshine. I wish it was fall all year.
