Zoka Team stuff...busy weekend...Go Dawgs...Interbike...one week to go

Random stuff.

Saturday we had our "Meet the Team" ride. In the fall, each of the cycling teams in the Seattle area host a rotating "Meet the Team" ride where people interested in joining a team are encouraged to come out and go on a ride. It's a conversational "no-drop" ride that's about networking more than training. Ours was on Saturday, and we had a great turn out and great weather. It's a lot of fun riding in a group, I've always loved it and it never gets old. We had some great prospects show up, hopefully we did a good job of showing off what a great team we've grown into. Looking forward to seeing who shows up in the next few weeks.

But it was a start to a very busy weekend. I got back to my house from the ride at about 12:45, and was supposed to meet some folks in Greenlake at 1:30 to carpool down to the Husky football game. Well, I was a bit late for that. We made it down to the game at about 2:45 and, shockingly, the main lot was full. So we drove all over campus, finally found a spot, and had a pathetic little tailgate party of our our own. Did I mention the weather was great? The start of the UW-UCLA game was scary. The Huskies are 2-1 (which already equals their win count from last year) and people were looking for a good showing against UCLA, who isn't that good either this year. The first quarter was awful. The Dawgs haven't looked that bad since, well, last year. I had run into an old friend from college, so the crappy football gave me a chance to catch up with her. Things changed at the end of the 2nd quarter though. Something kicked in and UW came from 16 points behind to win by 13. It was really great to be at Husky Stadium for that - there was a lot of pent-up fandom that got re-awakend on Saturday, and with the great weather, and great view, you can't beat it. Bowl game maybe? Hmmm...

We hung out with some old Frat friends after the game while traffic did it's thing. I talked to my buddy Kevin and realized a friend of ours (Shane) was up at his place for the weekend. Deb decided we should head up there. So we did the hour drive up to Mount Vernon and got there around 9pm, just in time to witness the spelendor that is a Saturday night in Mount Vernon, Washington. We crashed up there, then headed home in time to catch the Seahawks game on Sunday. Then I went for a 45 minute run. Phew!

Anyway, the hits just keep on coming. I'm headed down to Interbike in Vegas later this week. I'm totally geeked. It's like Disneyland for bike-o-philes.

But Interbike puts a nice little cap on the end of my "down time". I'm finalizing my decision on some coaches. October 1 is the day I start formally building towards IMAZ. T-Minus 6.5 months.
