Rolling into the 2006 bike racing season

So I'm still learning about how my body reacts to training. A bunch of us Zoka's signed up for a group training program in November and have been basically training our asses off since then. It was going well for me until mid-Feb when I came down with a little cough. That turned into a fever that lasted 6 days. Now, I haven't been sick for more than two days in about 10 years. As I was starting to get over that, I got a sinus infection. And on top of that, my power numbers weren't looking great. Taken altogether I was experiencing classic over-training, which is basically what happens when you're putting a larger training load on your body than it's capable of adjusting to. My problem seemed to be how my schedule was set up - light Monday's and Fridays off. It's just not enough time to recover so I've moved things around go give me more consecutive days off. It looks like it's working, we'll see how it goes this weekend.

Anyway, the racing season has started and we've got two time trials and two road races behind us. I'll definitely say that riding for a team that actually acts like a team is really a lot of fun (believe it or not, bike racing is absolutely a team sport, and it's a lot more fun that way).

My plan is to focus on the bike through May when the meat of the season is over and there's a lull before the shorter races in the summer, and then I'll start focusing on the Lake Stevents 1/2 Ironman in late July.
