One of the nice things about triathlons is that it's made up of three separate competitive events that you can also do separately. I get tired of training all the time and it's really racing that keeps me focused an motivated. After a 12 year haitus from bike racing, I did a 10-mile time trial just outside of Seattle last weekend. Fantastic weather (it was pushing 70 down there!) and a huge turn out (well over 200 riders) made it a lot of fun. I did it mostly as a fitness check, and did better than I'd expected to. I ended up in the top half of my age group which wasn't bad given that's not the kind of training I've been doing. Unfortunately I'm having some sort of a setup issue and have developed an issue with my right IT band that I'm working through. Serves me right for pointing out that I was almost injury free to someone a few weeks ago.
Yesterday, I did the St. Patrick's Day Dash here in Seattle. It's a 3.5 mile fun run that goes from Seattle Center down to Safeco Field. We're brewing quite a drought here in Seattle, again it was sunny and beautiful outside. This race was also kind of a fitness check for me, in which I ran 6:30 miles according to the timing. That's fast for me, especially considering I haven't been doing any speed work, so I'm speculating the course wasn't really 3.5 miles maybe?
