I've got a pretty high pain threshold for cool-new stuff that isn't 100% ready for primetime. For example, I love my Sound Blaster Wireless setup (I bought two of 'em even!) even with all it's rough edges, connectivity issues, and crappy library management. It does what I need it to do and generally makes my life better, so I'm willing to put up with it.
I was complaining to Brian about this the other day but it continues to be such in the pain in the ass I feel the need to rant to a larger (and probably less interested even) audience. The subject of my ire right now is the Napster plugin for Windows Media Player. I've made a large bet on WMA (e.g. all the CDs I've ripped to my machine at home, my Rio, etc.), and I really do like Windows Media Player, so iTunes isn't a great option for me. Plus, Napster lets me stream music on a subscription basis rather than having to buy each album, which is great for at the office. But the Napster plugin has got to be one of the single worst pieces of software I have ever come in contact with. It's constantly blocking the UI thread, which is bad because it's also horribly slow. It tends to do things with cruddy, small, modal dialogs that you can't resize. It constantly asks me to log in, even if I choose "log me in automatically". It is incredibly frustrating to use, which pisses me off because I like getting my music online (I'd just as soon never go to a record store again), and I don't mind paying for the music. I should point out here that I think DRM in generally has a long way to go so it protects IP without making customer's lives difficult, which it kind of does right now, but that's another topic. Maybe I should look at MSN Music, maybe that's better.
