Went down to Cabo over the last week. Had a lot of fun and it was nice to get away, get some sunshine, and get fairly cozy with some of the local Humpback whale population. A couple of funny things happened.
First, Mexico's election was last weekend (pretty sure it was all of Mexico but it was in the state of BCS at least). They do their elections on Sunday and don't allow alcohol sales on Saturday or Sunday. So we fly in on Saturday, and while waiting for a taxi, I go to get us some cervecas, which they refuse to sell me. It takes a bit to put all the pieces together. As you might imagine, Cabo was pretty quiet on Saturday and Sunday. Fortunately our resort restaurant somehow had an exemption for the Super Bowl party they'd put together. BTW, watching the Super Bowl from a beach-side cabana isn't too bad at all. And I even won the 3rd Quarter score-grid, which was nice.
What was more interesting was that I got a text message from Simon (our GPM, one of my peers) saying basically "not sure if you're reachable but you may want to take a quick look online. hope you're enjoying vacation." Yeah, sure, no problem. So later that day I bounce into an internet cafe to see what the deal is and realize what a splash the whole Windows Forms Source thing had made. I guess Mexico is as good a place as any to find out that you've not only had a few articles written about you but you've been SlashDotted as well. As is always the case, it's not all accurate but in general they weren't too rough on me, and being on vacation at the time I got a bit of a kick out of it really...
